BJJ for working adults in Singapore

Practical guide from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Singapore · Updated 10 October 2026

Where can a working adult start BJJ after work or at the weekend?

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Singapore runs one-hour adult no-gi classes at Clarke Quay. Complete beginners can start on Tuesday or Friday at 6pm or 7pm, or Sunday at 12pm. All levels sessions run Wednesday at 7pm and Saturday at 1pm. Book a $30 trial first, confirm the session before travelling and ask which classes your membership would include.

Pick a class you can reach after work

Start with your actual leaving time, not your ideal one. Include travel to 44 North Canal Road, Level 3, and time to change into clean training clothes. If 6pm requires rushing, the 7pm beginner hour on Tuesday or Friday may fit better. Sunday at 12pm is another beginner option when weekday evenings are difficult.

Keep one realistic time as the starting point, and identify a backup from the published timetable. Do not count the weekday lunchtime slots: they are marked coming soon, not available classes. Confirm holiday or competition changes before travelling.

These are adult group classes, not a private lesson or a guaranteed reserved place. Tell the academy whether you have trained before so it can confirm an appropriate session.

Check the current weekly timetable before choosing a date. For the MRT route and entrance, use the Clarke Quay directions page.

Use the trial to test the routine as well as the coaching

The one-off trial is $30 for a full class, with regular students and coaching feedback. Book ahead through WhatsApp rather than walking in. Choose a beginner hour if this is your first grappling class and tell the coach about your experience before starting.

Pack a separate set of clean athletic wear. Every session here is no-gi, so there is no gi to buy. Use the kit guide for clothes and items to leave off the mats. Arrive ten minutes early, following the booking instructions.

Notice whether the journey works after a normal working day, whether you can follow the explanations and whether you feel comfortable asking a question. A pleasant tour is useful, but the class itself helps you decide whether the routine suits you.

Choose a day using the beginner trial-time selector. The request is an enquiry; wait for the academy to confirm your booking.

Plan the first month without promising a belt or a result

Before the trial: choose your date, check the route, pack your training clothes and note one question you want the coach to answer. After the trial: decide whether the teaching and weekly journey fit, then ask about the membership and attendance allowance before paying.

In the following weeks, use the sessions agreed with the academy. Keep a short note after a class: which position you practised, what you did not understand and what to ask next time. This is a planning routine, not a four-week coaching syllabus or a guarantee of progress.

If overtime or travel interrupts a week, ask how to return to an appropriate class. Cancellation, pauses, make-up sessions and membership expiry must be confirmed with the academy; this guide does not promise them.

At the end of the month, review attendance and practical fit. Can you reach the sessions consistently? Are you comfortable asking questions? Do the agreed fees and included sessions still suit you? Those checks are more useful than comparing yourself with a student who has trained for years.

Compare the membership with the visits you can actually make

Published monthly membership is $250 for adults aged 24 and over, or $200 for anyone under 24. The academy states that it charges no franchise or registration fee. The one-off trial is separate from a monthly membership.

For budgeting only, $250 divided by four attended classes is $62.50 per visit; divided by eight is $31.25. At the $200 rate the same arithmetic is $50 or $25. These figures are not drop-in prices and do not imply that four or eight visits are included in a plan.

Before joining, confirm the sessions and attendance allowance, payment terms, minimum commitment, cancellation notice and any extra charges. A price stated per month does not tell you whether you may stop next month.

Read the published trial and membership prices and the cost guide, then ask the academy about the terms of your own plan.

Choose beginner or all levels without changing the training format

Beginner sessions run Tuesday and Friday at 6pm and 7pm, and Sunday at 12pm. All levels sessions run Wednesday at 7pm and Saturday at 1pm. Both formats are one hour and every session is no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling.

The published class information says beginners are welcome in all levels sessions too. If you have never trained, ask the academy which hour to start in rather than assuming the mixed class is the best first appointment.

The academy describes coaching adapted to the people attending, rather than a fixed syllabus, with questions at the end of the session. See the founder and academy pages for the coaching background; no particular rank, fitness change or injury-free experience is promised by joining.

Compare beginner and all levels classes before booking. Every option here uses the same all no-gi format.
